ARTENELVENTO. Oscar Piattella and the Sbandieratori di Gubbio

THE FORTY-EIGHT FLAGS
The harmony of gestures, long refined through a careful and measured process of osmosis; the constant pursuit of tracing vibrant palettes of colour through the air in the dance of flags; the need to reconcile an archaic language with the elusive, ever-changing and constantly renewed experience of the here and now: in Gubbio, ancient tradition and the present merge to define a further cultural dimension, a powerful form of living art, through an interpretative immersion in contemporary art.
The encounter between the Sbandieratori di Gubbio and the artist Oscar Piattella, an esteemed friend, proved particularly fruitful. Piattella seems to have drawn the symbols and colours he spread across the banners from the minds of the flag-bearers themselves, skilfully delving into the deepest roots of the proud walled city. Thus, first beneath the skies of Gubbio and then beneath those of the most distant cities of the world, the “Bandieranti” raise, in daring aerial choreographies, the arcane signs of the Tabulae Iguvinae, the emblems of Federico II da Montefeltro, the mazzocchi embodying Renaissance perfection, and the many symbols spanning millennia that Piattella retrieved from history to make them shine anew, in the lustre of silk, in the present day.
